This blog is an important wake up call. We are all familiar when flying when the captain says “prepare the cabin for landing”, This call is made when we are at least 30 minutes from our destination. Are you ready for landing? We have a new window of opportunity to get ready for retirement between 50-60 and it includes so much more than 401k. This is not the end of our career trip but just a change of gates to arrive at a new productive destination post retirement. Now we get to create our own sense of life balance, fulfillment and financial freedom. Bravo for helping us do just that.
Agree and love the plane metaphor. Job security is not secure. Self reliance and answers come from within, and we do get to define our next great chapter in every major facet of our lives.
Amazing article. I quit my soul draining corporate job last week after 20 years of being a pharmacist in managed care space. Like you, on my last day I turned on my favorite song Liberta performed by Al Bano and Romina Power ( in Italian) to celebrate my freedom from the corporate slavery ( yes, I said like it is!). I love your CORELife principle which I 100% agree with and going to follow to build my new professional life and entrepreneurship.
I love Liberta, Mariana. Gives me chills. Congratulations on your exit and thank you. As a PharmD, I can relate after 25 years in executive service to Big Pharma in global clinical research and medical affairs. There were times I woke up in one country and thought I was in another. I was one who chose to leave corporate burnout and build my own version of a knowledge based coaching and consulting firm, focused once again on people first. In freedom...purpose. Let's leave people with some of those lyrics. Welcome. I'm glad you are here.
Thank you so much Anne for your sincere, warm, and kind words. Yes, these are my favorite lyrics too. Wish you lots of success in your coaching work. I love your articles and will keep on reading them. We can get in touch on LinkedIn too. I often post there. I bought your book back in 2021 soon after your interview with Todd Eury on PPN but only now I will finally get to read it. Somehow never had time to start. I guess, now is the right time for me.
Thank you for sharing. This is definitely a lesson I need to learn. Having been self employed for 25 years, but now working for a corporation. This 54 year old hair stylist needs to prepare.
So true, Stephen, we are not trained to be prepared for retirement or life’s transitions. Not in school, or work, or anywhere. So many people are all together in this same boat with you. But we have the power to make it sail and not sink. And as I just wrote that, I pictured the strong viking men all rowing together on the rough ocean going to war. This is what we all need to do collectively by changing our mindset and the paradigm of agism. 🚣🏻🚣🏻

From "Liberta", English translation:
"Freedom, you made so many people cry
Without you, there's so much solitude
Till living will have a purpose
I will live in order to have you."

Now is always the right time. ;-) Enjoy the book. xo
