Wisdom Wednesday: Why Awareness Matters
Burnout, Alzheimer’s, PTSD & Cancer — June’s Wake-Up Call
You can’t fix what you don’t name.
That’s why June matters more than we realize. The Corelife Method®, which I created and authored in 2009, is a transformational coaching system that’s been used by thousands of coaches and practitioners in 33 countries. It’s about creating life balance from the inside out. In May on Substack, we focused on the Mental Health Awareness aspects of the method, but as simple as it is, it has infinite applications to various challenges faced by a modern human. And, as a PharmD and Central Nervous System Disorders Expert (anxiety, depression, ADHD, etc.), this is another month of topics right up my professional alley.
This month holds space for:
🧠 Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month
🩺 Men’s Health Month
🧘 PTSD Awareness Month
🎗 Cancer Survivors Month
🛟 National Safety Month
As I look at this months roundup, I bet if you are reading this post at least one of these topics have affected you or someone you love.
And yet — many of us blow through life, too busy surviving. Too depleted to take notice. Too deep in the fog of the daily to-do list to even feel the warning signs. This is especially true if you're in some kind of personal crisis and still showing up as a leader, executive, caregiver, or provider.
I call this the double whammy: Burnout on the job + a personal upheaval at home. It could be a diagnosis, a death, a child in need, or caring for aging parents. Life keeps coming, and you keep holding it all…
But here’s the truth: Awareness is your first act of power.
In The Corelife Method®, awareness sits right at the edge of the shift from CHAOS to CENTERED. It’s the split-second moment when you realize you’re not okay, or circumstances around you are not okay, like being emotionally abused for years, and that realization becomes the eye-opener, and heart-opener.
Before that is tolerance; even for years.
There are subtle symptoms we tend to ignore:
Decision fatigue
Emotional numbness
Shortness of breath, constant sighing, anxiety, or brain fog
Snapping at people you love; a subconscious plea for control
Saying “I’m fine” when you’re anything but
These aren’t just signs you’re tired — they’re wake-up-calls to stop stuffing emotions and reintegrate, recalibrate and regenerate.
This Week’s Corelife Reflection
Where are you still ignoring the signs?
What is your body, your calendar, your mood — your spirit — trying to tell you?
You are not alone. And you don’t have to power through every day like a robot. There is no shame in being human and feeling all the feels. Perhaps let this post be your moment to become aware.
“What is necessary to change a person is to change his awareness of himself.”
— Abraham Maslow
This is C-O-R-E Expressions.
Until next week, stay centered on what truly matters to your soul.
Much love,
Anne
