The Resilience of Leadership
Wisdom Wednesday: When Life Blindsides You, Keep Moving Anyway — There’s a Mission in Your Core
“You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it.”
— Margaret Thatcher
There comes a time—maybe once, maybe often—when life seems to hit you from all sides.
You’re leading. You’re responsible. You’re expected to show up.
But behind the scenes, life has blindsided you.
A death. A diagnosis. A disappointment.
The loss you didn’t see coming.
The punch you weren’t ready to take.
And yet—here you are.
Still breathing.
Still leading.
Still called.
Resilience isn’t just the ability to bounce back.
It’s the deeply spiritual capacity to dig in—to get quiet enough to hear your core whisper again.
Because somewhere, beneath the mind that’s racing and the emotions that are hurting,
there is a center—
A still, sacred place where your spirit meets the Spirit of God.
That place isn’t shaken by the storm.
It’s the “R” in CORE.
It’s what holds you upright when everything around you tries to take you down.
I recently had to pause—profoundly.
The loss of a close friend and my dad just before that, stunned me. For five days, I couldn’t write a word.
I wasn’t ready to teach this week… not yet.
But when I finally opened up—when I tapped the inner font—it was like the ink of purpose started flowing again.
Because here’s the truth: You don’t keep going because life is easy. You keep going because you are called. That’s servant leadership. Not to give out of deficit, but to remember the overflow.
Here are 10 reasons to keep moving when life hits hard:
Because your purpose hasn’t changed.
Because people are watching how you rise.
Because your legacy is unfolding, even now.
Because pain refines your unique character like nothing else.
Because leaders aren’t perfect—they’re present.
Because your voice is needed in a noisy world.
Because quitting isn’t peace—it’s postponement.
Because Spirit strengthens you from within.
Because resilience is your superpower.
Because you were born for this mission.
So what now?
You don’t have to sprint.
But you can open the font.
Write the thing.
Speak the truth.
Take the walk.
Do the workout.
Make the call.
Start small —but start. It will help you heal and get stronger
Let your resilience speak louder than your resistance today.
